The Ruins at Night

As the night started to dominate the sky, we headed from Silay City to Talisay City which was few kilometers from Bacolod.

The city is famous for this landmark, The Ruins. It was listed as one of the 12 World's Fascinating Ruins (Source: Here). The mansion dates back to the 1900s when it was built by the sugar baron, Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson, for his first wife, Maria Braga, a Portuguese from Macau whom he met in his vacations in Hong Kong. The mansion's structure is of Italianate architecture enhanced by a belvedere complete with renaissance-type balustrading typical of the homes of English ship captains. It was burned down in World War II to prevent the Japanese from using it. (Source: The Ruins)

We went to this place and passed on sugarland where planted sugarcane were as high as our van greeted us until we reached the sign to The Ruins and in few minutes, we finally reached this place. We paid PHP50 each (discounts for students, children and senior citizen available). The moment we stepped down from the van, we were awed the beauty of the structure. According to my friends in blogs, The Ruins was best before sunset and at night because of the color that will reflect the structure. It was indeed true. I was fascinated by light across the ruins.

There were many avid photographers who were busy taking photos since it was great. This place also called The Taj Mahal of Negros and one of the fascinating landmarks of the country. We also saw a pre-nuptial ceremony which ideally this was a great place of doing it. There was a restaurant inside so it was a romantic dinner as expected. It was really more fun and exploring this historical site. It was indeed a pleasure to visit this landmark and to know the history of it.

How to get there:
Via car/van: Proceed to Bata (PEPSI bottling plant) and turn east. About 600 meters, you will see a cellsite above a 2 story building on the left. Opposite that building you will see a big sign that says "THIS WAY TO THE RUINS". You will enter that narrow street leading to Rose Lawn Memorial Garden. Follow the small red and yellow signs on the electrical posts which will lead you all the way to The RUINS.

Commute: At day, the best way is to take a jeepney from downtown to Bata (a barangay name) and drop off at the flyover at Bata. There were tricycles available that will take you to the Ruins. Other option is to take taxi and advise the driver to wait for you if you will not stay longer. But mind you, it was more fun taking photos to this place so better make some adjustments. :)
