Pit Señor!
I left Dumaguete as early as 3AM to catch the first trip of Ceres Liner bound for Cebu City. It was a 5-hour journey and I was seated at the middle. I also slept the entire trip except during the sea transfer from Negros Oriental to Cebu Province passing Tañon Strait which it took an hour before we reached Santander, Cebu. But nevertheless, my heart felt that in a moment I am in Cebu and to celebrate the much awaited Sinulog Festival. I was excited since it was my first time to be in a festival season. The moment the conductor shouted Cebu City Terminal, I was even more excited.

Sinulog Festival is one of the major event in Cebu. It happened every 3rd week of January. It honors Sto. Niño, the patron of Cebu. The word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano adverb sulog which roughly means "like water current movement;" it describes the forward-backward movement of the Sinulog dance. The dance consists of two steps forward and one step backward, done to the sound of drums. The dance is categorized into Sinulog-base, Free-Interpretation. Candle vendors at the Basilica continue to perform the traditional version of the dance when lighting a candle for the customer, usually accompanied by songs in the native language. It was raining but nothing beats the fun and excitement of the festival. Rain or shine, the show must go on. Activities were simulated left and right and most of the people were on the streets having a great parade. This festival produced great atmosphere of talents. This Cebuanos are very passionate on art and entertainment. There were many spotted artists and politician joined the parade along the main streets of Cebu. The next day, we headed along the streets of Bacalso and Jones to witness the parade. During the parade, we saw some participants in their stylish costumes and we took some photos.

We also heard mass at Basilica Minore del Santo Niño and there were so many people at the church. Cebuanos show their faith to their patron and we witnessed it during the mass. The festival was very successful. Rain or shine, Cebuanos show unending support to the festival most especially to Señor Sto. Niño.

Happy Sinulog!
Pit Señor Sto. Niño! :)
